Who are AMAX?

AMAX are an acoustic folk duo from Canberra, Australia comprising of Amy Dunham and Max Gambale, who are such bright cookies, they smushed their names together to create their band name of AMAX. They did however, put it in capital letters, as they feel they are fun enough to yell about.

Amy Dunham is a singer/songwriter/teacher and arts educator having 16 years of musical theatre, festival performances, gigs and stage/screen acting, awards and character shows under her belt. She loves puppets more than anything except teaching her gorgeous students, who are all taller than her.

Max Gambale (from the Gambale legends) is trained in Jazz vocals specifically, but has a broad range of styles in his tool kit for both voice and guitar. Also performing in the musical theatre since the age of 18 he is known about town for his huge vocal range and all round nice dude-ness.

They formed a band drunkenly in a gutter of Belconnen one night in early 2007 and have never looked back. This is, sadly (or brilliantly), 100% accurate.

Amy and Max worked together as science communicators/performers in a variety of roles between 2005 and 2012. Max is still in the game. They have done a variety of musicals together including the Canberra Critics Circle best show of 2011, Avenue Q. They have been house mates since July 2011 along with Max's ladyfriend and AMAX caterer/biggest fan, Miss Em.

It is safe to say they are the same person minus a touch of beard.

They love playing songs and creating lovely things together in the Urban Family house.

AMAX write songs about their own lives and all of their songs stem from real life experiences. Broken hearts, happy days and picking up (or attempting...) in bars.

They are in the process of recording their first album together. Amy recorded one at age 15 and the other with her brother at age 18. They are excited about this to the point of multiple 'squees' and possible public urination at it's mention.

Keep your eyes peeled for details of album launch, upcoming gigs, new songs and videos and remember...LOCALS DO IT BETTER!

AMAX have been privillaged to have had an exciting 2012 with many great new experiences. They look forward to sharing their journey with you.

Festivals this year have included Jindyfest on the shores of Lake Jindabyne, Album launches for Freyja's Rain and coming up, Corinbank take two!

AMAX really appreciate all the support, facebook 'likes', shares of music, attendance at gigs, knowledge of lyrics and lovely things people do for us in our wonderful little community.

All the love,

AMAX
